François Dormoy designed its own site covering air transport research. The objective of this site is to assist air transport researchers working for airlines or airports to find their ways through their research work (where to find what and what are the danger of misleading statistics). His background Although at the University François's major was in marketing and sales, he concentrated most of its efforts in economic research. Since the beginning he was an aviation enthusiast. While he was at the Business School in Paris, he organised (jointly with another person) charter flights to the USA for cultural associations and university students. So he was able to travel to New York with free tickets in many occasions. He also got his private motor flying license (to fly on single engine airplane) and gliding license (on sailplane). His travel Since 1972, he logged over 2.2 million kilometres flown on 64 airlines. He visited 74 countries and 116 airports around the world during the course of his duties. His most exciting countries are Hong Kong, Bangkok and Singapore. But since he was a child, he traveled quite a lot. Firstly on cruise ships (his father was the French Line Company representative in Guadeloupe (Caribbean) so he had many opportunities to travel on ships. His first air journey was between Guadeloupe and Martinique, with a DC-3 aircraft. That was in the 1950s. His current employer The International Air Transport Association is a highly respected organisation in the air transport industry, playing a very active role in the development of air transport. The main office is in Montreal but the operational center is in Geneva, where he worked for 20 years. When François joined IATA in 1977, his first duty was to conduct a study on the economic impact of air transport in the United Kingdom. He then proposed to his superior to carry out air transport related consultancy studies for external clients to generate revenues outside of membership dues. That was a precedent at that time and his first client was the airport authorities of Pointe-à-Pitre (Guadeloupe). This activity has been carried out since then and expanded. |
