The Arts according to Christopher Dormoy His background Christopher went to College in France (near Geneva) and graduated (French baccalaureat) in June 1996. His major was in economics, but he was more comfortable with art. He discovered skills in drawing, in painting and thus decided to shift totally his carreer to artistic work rather than economics. He entered the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Lyon (France) in September 1996. But he had to follow his parents to move to Montreal. He is now in his second year of a Design Art programme at the University of Concordia. Christopher experimented his artistic skill firstly in making drawings (cartoon-type drawings). He was a great fan of cartoons (Tintin in particular). He also liked drawing futuristic cars, motocycles. Then he widened his sujects when he started at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Lyon (France). He produced a series of posters. When he was living in France, he made a few of them for commercial shops to put in theire showroom. Christopher's paintings are generally very modern. He made a few large framed paintings. A few examples are shown in his site. Before he started the Ecole des Beaux Arts, he already became comfortable with carving stones, in particular the kind of cellular concrete, which is a very soft stone, easy to carve. He produced various objects such as lamps, columns, futuristic statutes. Here are a few examples. |
