The Art of Paiting according to Sylvie Dormoy

"One must look at nature as if nobody never looked at it before you"

citation from Paul Cézanne

Sylvie Dormoy started painting in 1974, without having taken any lesson before, but having been in an artistic environment.   She lived in Le Vesinet, not too far from Louveciennes (where Sisley lived during four years), near Marly-le-Roi, Bougival (where Monet painted with Renoir the Grenouillière).  Her father was renovating old paintings so she had occasions to share with him the same interests for paintings.

The first time Sylvie painted, it was in New York.  As they were just married, they could not afford buying paintings to hang on the wall, and she decided to paint on her own.  As she liked very much the impressionists, she decided to be inspired from them.

She was very active in painting when she lived in Geneva, she liked visiting galleries and she had a couple of friends who were painters as well.  She joined the Association des Artistes Indépendents in paris which gave her the opportunity to expose her art work at the Grand Palais, in Paris.  She also exposed in a local gallery in Geneva.

As they had a new home in France, near Geneva, Sylvie was quite busy in finishing the house, decorating and above all gardening.  So she was less active in paiting activities.   But nevertheless she made a few paitings that are shown in this site.

Montreal is a great cultural center and Sylvie decided to start again  painting.  She changed her style and there are a few examples of what she is doing now in this site.
